Just as ecoliteracy is about interrelatedness, so are we. Partnerships are encoded in our DNA. Below are just a few of the organizations we work with to help achieve a sustainable Nevada. Please support our partners!
High Desert Montessori School
High Desert Montessori School (HDMS) is a growing, Reno public charter school offering free Montessori education to at-risk students. Founded 13 years ago, the school serves a diverse population of over 400 students in grades prekindergarten through 9 (PreK-9).
HDMS urges all students to be participating members of a socially-conscious, green community by inspiring them to be critical thinkers capable of reflection, communication and action. Through their formative experiences, these students become tomorrow’s consumers and policy makers, capable of employing ecoliteracy to promote sustainability in the greater community. As the High Desert community grows, the school is expanding into new spaces and exploring new ways to implement core philosophies.
HDMS is Sustainable Nevada's EcoStudents partner.
Nevada STEM Coalition
The Nevada STEM Coalition promotes statewide leadership and collaboration to increase the numbers of skilled students who pursue STEM degrees and careers that leads to a robust Nevada economy. They are especially concerned that ALL students receive equitable access to STEM formal and informal learning, as our underrepresented and at risk populations receive very little science education.
Sustainable Nevada partnered with the Nevada STEM Coalition to create the Nevada STEM Education Advocacy Kit. We are also involved in the STEM Coalition's efforts to identify the role of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) education in Nevada.
Desert Research Institute GreenPower
GreenPower helps educators teach students about renewable energy, conservation, and sustainability with standards-based green concepts and practices appropriate to any PreK-12 classroom.
Sustainable Nevada partners with GreenPower on the development of Green Boxes related to The Build Environment and The Living World.
Similar to Full Option Science System (FOSS) kits, Green Boxes give educators access to hands-on activities and curriculum for a unit (1-2 weeks) on various topics.
Sustainable Nevada is a member of DRI's professional development team.
United States Green Building Council, Center For Green Schools
The Center for Green Schools was established to drive the transformation of all schools into sustainable and healthy places to learn, work and play.
The Center for Green Schools has endorsed our EcoStudents program.
United States Green Building Council, Nevada Chapter
Nevada is a model for sustainable buildings and communities and is renowned in the region for its outstanding quality of life.
The U.S. Green Building Council - Nevada Chapter encourages the adoption of sustainable codes, implementation of sustainable construction practices for existing and new buildings and access to sustainable education throughout the state.
Sustainable Nevada partners with the Nevada chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council on our built environment projects.
Connecting Hands: Creating Lifelong Learning Adventures (CHOLLA) is a consortium of community agencies and the Clark County School District that collaborate to provide opportunities for connecting and extending classroom learning.
Sustainable Nevada supports CHOLLA.
Sustainable Nevada is a member of Growing Resources for Environmental Education in Nevada (GREENevada), a coalition of nonprofit organizations which fosters sustainability through environmental education.
